Terran plot: Why didn't the mission update when I dropped a satellite?

One possible reason is that you don't have Captain Pearle on board - you were supposed to bring him with you! If you dock at the ATF base in Asteroid Belt (in a ship with enough free cargo space and with Cargo Lifesupport System installed) then Pearle will transfer over automatically. If you already picked up Pearle but 'misplaced' him (e.g. by selling the ship he was in) then all is not lost! If Pearle is not onboard one of your ships during this mission step then he should show up as an astronaut near your personal ship - pick him up and you should be able to continue the mission as normal.

Another source of issues with this mission is using the 'Deploy Satellite Network' command - the mission expects you to manually deploy the satellite (by ejecting it from your freight bay), and will not recognise satellites deployed in some other way.

Note that the type of satellite is not important - both Navigation Relay Satellites and Advanced Satellites will work.
