The following acronyms are frequently used:
- PPC: a Photon Pulse Cannon, which is a weapon generally only found on capital (M1 and M2) ships.
- HEPT: a High Energy Plasma Thrower, which is a weapon class generally found on Fighter (M3) and Corvette (M6) class ships.
- PSG: a Phased Shockwave Generator, which is a weapon class found on various ships, and can be used to great effect in destroying capital ships.
- PAC: a Particle Accelerator Cannon which is a light weapon often found in missile defence turrets, and interceptors (M4).
- IRE: an Impulse Ray Emitter which is a very weak weapon found in missile defence turrets and Scout ships (M5).
A, B and G used as a prefix for each of the above merely designates which model it is. Alpha (A) models often have the lowest energy drain and concentrate on either shield or hull damage, Beta (B) models have the middle drain and do a medium damage to both shields and hull, Gamma (G) models have massive power drain, but are the most powerful of the types.
- ID/IonD: an Ion Disruptor, which are weapons designed purely to strip shields from other craft.
- MD: a Mass Driver, often found in specialist ships and missile defence turrets. Mass Drivers are the ONLY weapon that requires ammunition. However, they bypass shields.
